Xylocarpus granatum (X. granatum) contains antibacterial compounds which are empirically efficacious for treating skin infections such as pyoderma. This study aims to test the antibacterial power of the ethanol extract of X. granatum leaves (EL) against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) ATCC 25923 and Streptococcus pyogenes (S. pyogenes) ATCC 12344. The inhibition test used the paper disc diffusion method in the EL treatment of X.granatum 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, as well as chloramphenicol control. The results showed that the EL inhibition zones of X. granatum were found against S. aureus (9.20-16.37mm) and against S. pyogenes (8.13-15.69mm); the effect is in the moderate to strong category. Based on Duncan's test, the antibacterial activity of X. granatum EL on S. aureus was significantly greater than that of S. pyogenes (p>0.05). In conclusion, the ethanol extract of X. granatum leaves has antibacterial activity against S. aureus and S. pyogenes, in the moderate to strong category.
